Certified Mail is a USPS service that can be added to First-Class Mail. It provides proof of mailing, a unique tracking number, and delivery confirmation.
This makes it especially useful for business-critical mail, such as, legal, financial, or other sensitive communications where accountability matters.
You can track your Certified Mail by entering the tracking number provided when you send your letter. You can enter the tracking number on the USPS website or within your LetterStream account to check the status of your letter.
A Certified Letter is limited to 13 ounces (75 double-sided pages). If your mailing exceeds this weight or page count the job will automatically be updated to a parcel and be sent in a box. You will see this reference and updated pricing at checkout.Â
Yes, you can add a Return Receipt (RR) — or in LetterStream’s case — Electronic Return Receipt (ERR) to your Certified Mail. Certified Mail typically travels at the same speed as First-Class Mail. LetterStream sends 95% of all mail to the USPS by next business day. USPS delivery times may vary.
Certified Mail does not provide delivery guarantees, nor does it guarantee that the recipient will see the contents of the letter. However, it does provide proof of mailing and tracking information, confirming that you handed the letter over to the post office.
No, Certified Mail is not available for international deliveries. For international mail that requires tracking or proof of delivery, you would need to use Registered Mail, which is more expensive and may provide similar tracking features.
